The danger of burying our pasts

In life, there will always be moments of stress. There will be times we feel anxious or worried. We might feel scared and fear for what lies ahead. Sometimes those challenges are rooted deep in our past, where shame, guilt, or trauma have affected our lives in ways we may not fully understand.

As we mature and grow, these inner issues remain. But rather than addressing them head on, we become experts at pushing them aside and burying them. Sometimes, we may even try to drown them out with the use of drugs, alcohol, food, or other destructive forms of behaviour.

We put on a positive face and tell ourselves all will be fine. However, at some level, even if we are not sure why, we still sense the presence of those negative feelings.

We begin to lose confidence in ourselves, our stress levels increase, our relationships deteriorate, and we discover that we have become addicted to the very things to which we used to turn for comfort.

Recovery is Possible

We know that things might feel difficult now.

An eating disorder or addiction, whether a drug addiction, alcohol addiction, or sex addiction, can be soul destroying. The mountain of challenges they present often looks impossible to climb.

We know because we have been there ourselves, which gives us unique insight into how you are truly feeling. But we have hope. We know that with the right support, guidance, and treatment, you can free yourself from the eating disorder or addiction.

This is going to be the biggest journey of your life. So don’t do it alone. Find the right support.

Receive a personalised treatment plan for an eating disorder or addiction

Addiction counselling covers any type of behaviour that negatively impacts your life. This could be an eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia. It could also be the use of alcohol, prescription drugs, or recreational drugs. It could be an addiction to sex, gambling, or relationships.

In the same way that no two people have the same life experience, we believe that addiction treatment plans should be carefully developed to match our clients’ needs.

The key to psychotherapy and counselling from a qualified counsellor and addiction specialist involves developing a treatment plan that unearths those deeply held thoughts, beliefs, and experiences at the root of the emotional distress you are experiencing. By addressing these issues and acknowledging the addition you remove the obstacles to recovery and bring out the inner harmony you desire.
